Ben was educated at Bramcote School in Scarborough and Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire. He obtained a B.A. Hons degree in Three Dimensional Design from the Surrey Institute of Art & Design in 1990. He is a graphic designer and company director. Ben has been managing Fox Cottage in Helmsley, a holiday cottage owned by his mother, Philippa Galloway, for 10 years. Philippa was responsible for the design and redecoration of Pear Tree House in 2018.
Rosie was born and grew up in Sri Lanka. She is an NHS careworker and works in a local care home which looks after elderly patients with dementia. She is also the housekeeper for Pear Tree House and a talented dress maker. Ben and Rosie met in 2017 and married in 2021.
In July 2021 Ben said: Without Rosie’s keen eye for detail, hard work and diligence, I could not have contemplated taking on a second holiday cottage. This is a new venture for us, a joint project, and we are very excited to be undertaking it.
In January 2024 Ben said: Two and half years have flown by in the blink of an eye. Rosie and I have enjoyed every moment of running Pear Tree House together. It has been challenging at times, and with a new arrival on the way in February, it may well become even more challenging. But we are very fortunate, we love our work, we take it very seriously and are passionate about what we do.
